The film.
Departure is a short film directed and produced by Anuj Viswanathan. I was the director of photography.
It was shot on June 28, 2025 in a house, with a production sound mixer on boom and wireless, and dialogue for the characters was re-recorded afterwards. The picture is dark and low-key, with low angles, tight framing and light kept to small pools.

The camera.
The camera stays low and close, so the frame feels tight even in an ordinary house.

Low angles and tight framing keep the character at the centre of the room.

Light is kept to a small pool, and a face is often lit by one source.
